Dear Parents and Players,
The GDYSL summer softball program consists competition in the Middle Essex Softball League (MESL). The Middle Essex League consists of over 170 teams in division ranging from 10U through 25U. Towns from all of Northeast Mass enter teams. The competitive level is higher than recreational programs such as GDSYL spring softball league. Teams in the "A" division of MESL are competitive with tournament teams. More information about the league can be found on the MESL website. Depending on interest, GDYSL may enter one or more teams in the 10U, 12U, 14U and 18U divisions this year.
The summer league is more competitive than recreational "spring town league." Pitching is faster on average, and play is more aggressive. More focus is given to competition than in spring recreational softball. Instruction is also at a higher level of intensity and expectation.
The GDYSL Summer League committment is demanding. Parents and players considering summer softball in the Middle Essex League should be availabile and willing to travel for games. There will be two games per week, one home and one away, with some away games being as far as 45-60 minutes away. Each team will also practice once, or possibly twice per week, depending on the coach. Most games and practices will be at 6:00 PM on M-Th. Fridays and weekends are used occasionally as well. Interested players can register online.
